The Provost serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the University, providing leadership on all aspects of the institution’s mission in the areas of teaching, research, scholarship, creative work, and service. The activities of the Provost can be more specifically delineated as follows:
- Maintaining, assessing, and upholding the highest standards for academic achievement and quality throughout the University
- Working closely with the President, the faculty, and senior administrative officers in reviewing and developing academic priorities for the institution and in overseeing their implementation
- Serving as a liaison for a wide variety of internal and external constituencies concerned with the academic well-being of the University
- Chairing the UC|21 Strategic Planning Council and co-chairing such groups as the Academic Operations Committee, which provide advice and counsel to the President on academic and budget issues, policy development, and vision for the future of the University
