Biography

Dr. Lawrence J. Johnson is the Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to his current position, Johnson served as Dean at the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, UC. While at CECH he served as a Professor in Early Childhood and Special Education, CECH at UC. Dr. Johnson was also an active Executive Director of the Arlitt Child & Family Research and Education Center at the University of Cincinnati.

Since he first served as Dean in 1999, Johnson has published extensively completing 11 books, 33 chapters in books, and 72 refereed journal articles. In addition to his publications, he served as the Principal Investigator or primary author of 200 grant proposals that were funded for a combined budget exceeding $110 million. The scope of these projects has had an impact at the local, state, and national level.

Dr. Johnson has been recognized by multiple organizations for his contributions in education and by the states of Illinois, Alabama and Ohio. He was also recognized by the Human Rights Commission in 2007 for making a difference in human relations in the Cincinnati region. In addition, he was honored by the International Council for Exceptional Children Division of Teacher Education for his contributions as the president of this organization and by the Division of Early Childhood for his contributions as Chair of the Research Committee. Dr. Johnson served a 6-year term as co-editor of the Journal for Teacher Education and Special Education and was twice the chair of the State of Ohio University of Education Deans. Finally, his research and service contributions have been recognized by the University of Cincinnati and he is a two time recipient of the Sylvia Boltz Tucker Award for service contributions.
