A letter from the Emeriti Association President:
Dear Fellow Emeriti:
We have important elections coming up at our annual meeting, May 11 (Thursday), 11:30-1:30 in the Banquet room of the Faculty Club, eighth floor of the Lindner Varsity Village (use your three hour free parking pass to park in the Lindner Varsity Village garage). A free hot lunch will be served 11:30-12:00 or so, and the Faculty Club will have a short annual mtg before ours. Our meeting will begin around 12:15, and consist of the following, in this order:
- A brief summary of the Emeriti Association accomplishments this past year, and an equally brief look at our bright future--from me
- A statement from Pat Mezinskis as our Vice President, and Interim Exec Dir of the Emeriti Center, regarding her past six months, and plans for the future
- Discussion, modification, and approval of the following change in the constitution recommended by the Emeriti Board:
**Our current Emeriti constitution (Article IV: Nominating Committee) states:
Each year the President shall appoint three (3) members of the Board for the purpose of nominating current and continuing members of the Board to be elected officers of the Board, and of nominating up to seven (7) Emeriti members to be elected to a three (3) year term on the Board. Currently serving members of the Board may be nominated for re-election and the Committee is encouraged to seek other persons from the larger membership. Nominations for the Board officers and new Board members may also be made from the floor during the Annual Meeting.
The Nomination Committee moves to change the wording in our constitution from "up to seven (7)" to "ideally at least seven (7)" Emeriti members to be elected...
Rationale: At least seven positions on the Board need to be filled each year. Ideally, there should be more than seven candidates from whom to choose.
4. Election of seven of the ten nominees from the attached list of candidates
5. Election of officers from the new Emeriti Board as currently nominated also in the attached
We have ten very well-qualified candidates for the Board, and only seven slots to fill, so this is an important election. You can participate in the voting for the new Board members only by being present at the annual meeting, so we urge all of you who can possibly make it to join us for this important time together. Additionally, Chef David always has a first class lunch prepared, and you will enjoy the camaraderie of seeing many of your colleagues again.
You must make reservations no later than May 8 to: <firstname.lastname@example.org> or call the Faculty Club (513-556-4157).
We look forward to seeing you on May 11.
For the Board,
Carl A. Huether,
