Using Expressive Arts with Young Adult Cancer Patients and Survivors will be offered in Spring Semester 2014 and is open to students from all disciplines. Under the guidance of artists and counselors, students will coach and empower young adult cancer patients and survivors in the Cancer & Blood Diseases Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in creating meaningful artistic expression through visual arts, writing, movement, and sound. In addition, students will explore and broaden their own personal awareness and have the opportunity to exhibit or publish artistic projects created through this engagement.
No previous art experience is required, but this course will involve studio art instruction. Class will meet on West Campus and at CCHMC (Medical Campus), and will involve occasional travel to local art venues and institutions. Various artists, counselors, and other professionals will visit the class to provide different perspectives on using expressive arts for therapeutic purposes.
