MUAY THAI

Muay Thai is a combat sport from Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques.  The term Muay Thai is also known as the "Art of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes, thus having 8 points of contact. This upper and lower body workout is killer-though there will be NO contact between participants in this class.  This class will focus on the technique and tradition of Muay Thai. Moves learned include basic elbow strikes, knees strikes, and punches. Students should also be taught how to walk as a fighter.

MARTIAL COMBAT TAI CHI

While the slow moving art of T'ai Chi Ch'uan is most commonly known for its health benefits, first and foremost it was developed as an "internal" martial art. The Chinese masters from whom we inherit it were renowned for their fighting prowess, earning their reputation in death matches (common in China even into the 20th century). This class will focus on the martial or combat elements of tai chi, specifically geared toward their applications in modern self-defense.
