Early Intervention System Instructions

User Instructions for class Instructors and Advisors

Please Note these new features effective January 2008 (08W):

  • Instructor can send a copy of the EI form to the student
  • Instructor can send a copy of the EI form to the disability services office as appropriate
  • A copy of the request is sent to the Learning Assistance Center if Tutoring is indicated by the instructor
  • For student athletes, the athletics academic services office will be notified.

Please be aware that in addition to this early intervention system, Blackboard offers an Early Warning feature.

Primary Class Instructors

  • An Early Intervention request to the student's college office is generated by the Primary Class Instructor via the Registrar Classlist by using the checkboxes to the right of each student's name on the class list:
  • After choosing a class, select one or more students and click Early Intervention at the bottom of the roster
  • Update the instructor phone and email if needed (a phone number is required)
  • Complete a form for each student selected.  Note: the instructor must be able to complete all student forms on the page and click "Submit" within 20 minutes to avoid a server timeout.  It is suggested that multiple student forms be submitted in batches of 10 or less at a time to meet the 20 minute rule.
  • Note that all checkboxes and comments on the form are optional but will help the student, student services personnel, or the advisor or designated college administrator in responding
  • Indicate a student's unsatisfactory performance concerning attendance, assignments, and tests/quizzes
  • Check No-Show if the student has not yet attended class
  • Use the comments box to communicate to the college office contact you've made with the student (including use of Blackboard Early Warning) and what is requested further from the college office, or other services
  • Indicate the action you are recommending the student to take, and the response you are requesting from the advisor
  • Choose to send a copy of the report to the student and the Disability Services Office (if the student has requested DSO accommodations).
  • Each request is recorded under the Details link next to a student's name on the class list.  College contact information and a status report (Not Started, Pending, or Complete) are included
  • If "Please provide feedback to instructor regarding intervention outcomes" option is selected on the instructor form, an automatic notification will be sent by email to the instructor when a change of status to Pending occurs.
  • When a change of status to Complete occurs, the advisor can choose to send an email notification to the instructor with the option to include comments.  The form is pre-populated with advisor name and phone number.
