Early Intervention Student FAQ

Why am I getting an EI?
The more aware you are about how you are performing academically, the greater your success!  The Early Intervention system is one way to ensure that you are kept aware.  An EI might be sent

  • before a class begins if you are missing a prerequisite.
  • during drop/add if you are a "no show", or accidentally registered for the wrong class section day/time.
  • at midterm if you've missed an assignment or are getting behind
  • closer to the Withdraw deadline if an instructor is concerned that you might not pass a class.

In all cases, we want to help you keep track of how you are doing, provide support and advice and connect you to resources.  We want you to be successful!

Who sent it?
Your course instructor initiates the request.

What will happen?
This depends on the information provided by the class instructor.  Each EI will indicate what the professor is recommending you do, which might include getting in touch with other offices around campus such as tutoring or academic advising.  You should receive some follow-up from these involved services.

What should I do?
This depends on the information provided by the class instructor.  Each EI will indicate what the professor is recommending you do.  This might include drop/withdraw, tutoring, making up work, or just to let you know how you are doing.  The best first thing to do is get back in touch with your professor at the first opportunity. Your Early Intervention College Liaison is another good resource.  Contact information for both of these is indicated on the EI email and also listed on the general EI FAQ.

Who is involved?
Each EI request is sent to an EI Liaison in your home college office and serves as a resource person for you to help you get connected to any resources you might need to be successful.  This liaison or another advisor in your college may contact you to discuss your overall academic progress.  If your instructor indicated that tutoring is recommended, then the tutoring office also gets a copy of the request.  If you are an athlete, then Athletics Academic Services is notified.  If you are receiving accomodations, your instructor may choose to notify the Disability Services Office

Am I in trouble?
Your course instructor wants you to be successful, otherwise they would not have sent the early intervention request!  You can take action to improve your situation!

I'm receiving financial aid, should I drop a class?
The One Stop Student Services Center (2nd floor University Pavilion, onestop@uc.edu, 513-556-1000, www.onestop.uc.edu) can tell you how a drop/withdraw can affect your eligibility for aid. Always check with them first!
