Course Description: an introduction to leading theories and their use in college student development practice, including psychosocial and cognitive development, and typology theories. Areas of focus will include identity, career, intellectual, moral and ethical development, counseling theory and student success/retention. Open to anyone (faculty, staff, administration) needing a post-baccalaureate/graduate level course providing background in foundations of college student development
Prerequisite: Post baccalaureate (graduate level) status
Course Objectives: Students will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the theories discussed, including the major components of, strengths, limitations, and research
- Learn from peers in a collaborative, seminar-style environment
- Apply theories of student development to practices in higher education
- Improve networking and referral connections across campus
- Develop and test new ideas
- Professional & career development
- Earn 3 graduate credits
