Established a small, permanent Grading Sub-Committee of the Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee with representatives of faculty, administrators from the College Liaison Committee, and student government; responsible for monitoring grading policy issues and recommending periodic updates to the Handbook for consideration by Faculty Senate.
Reinforced and reaffirmed Handbook policy on professional responsibility with a new Faculty Senate resolution to support administrators seeking to obtain grades from instructors who out of misplaced compassion or negligence failed to provide a grade for selected students: "Faculty Senate has resolved that all course instructors have a professional responsibility to submit a grade for every student using only the approved UC grades."
Streamlined procedures for the grading appeals process formerly assigned to the discontinued University Grading Advisory Committee (UGAC). Incorporated previously approved changes to the grade replacement (formerly "course repeat") policy and extended the deadline for application to the 58th calendar day of a quarter.
Established a one-year deadline for completion of "in progress" work, providing automatic conversion to "IP/F" with 0.0 quality points for undergraduates who have not completed "IP" course requirements.
Created a new "NP" grade indicating "not proficient" as an alternative for the "IP" currently used for 103-level and below English courses-clarifying practice at UC since 1978 and creating grading policies that are more comparable to first-year English programs at other universities.
