Residence Hall Association (RHA) and Hall Governments
As a resident of your hall, you have the opportunity to share your ideas for activities and services in your new home. In addition to meeting lots of the students in your hall, you will be an active participant in making things happen. The staffs of Resident Education and Development (RED) and Housing and Food Services (HFS) want to understand your issues and concerns.
As a member of the residence hall community, you do not have to be a bystander. Why not share your energy and ideas to make your new home a great place? As a hall government student leader, you will learn and experience the following benefits:
- Working in diverse teams and groups;
- Organizing the thoughts and ideas of many students into action-oriented
plans;
- Managing a budget to meet residents’ needs;
- Understanding residence hall operations;
- Setting goals and implementing strategies to help all residents;
- Having fun at lots of programs and activities;
- Learning to be a leader in the university environment;
- Increasing communication between residents, staff and administrators;
- Earning additional funds for educational expenses; and
- Building skills that can transfer to career opportunities after graduation.
We need your skills and talents!
Residence Hall Governance Structure
Each residence hall has a hall government body made up of representatives from each floor of the building. Early in the autumn quarter, elections are held in each hall. Additionally, there is a representative from each hall to serve in the Residence Hall Association (RHA). RHA is the system-wide hall governance body for all of the UC residence halls and meets weekly. Elections for RHA executive board members are held during each spring quarter for the upcoming academic year.
Hall government groups, who usually meet weekly in their hall, are as follows:
- Calhoun Hall Executive Council (CHEC)
- Campus Rec Center/Dabney Council (CRCDC)
- Daniels Hall Association (DHA)
- Government of Siddall Hall (GOSH)
- Jefferson Advisory Council (JAC)—serving Turner and Schneider Halls
Hall governments and RHA are funded by receiving a portion of your room and board fees. Use your voice to influence how these resources are used on your behalf.
Specific information on how to participate in hall government at your hall will be available after hall opening. Check with the front desk or any staff member. We look forward to your participation and involvement. Let’s make your campus home a community of enjoyable learning and unforgettable experiences.
