Leadership Development Opportunities
Workshops & Retreats The Student Activities and Leadership Development staff is trained to conduct workshops and retreats on an as-needed basis for all clubs, organizations, offices, departments and individuals. Possible experiences may focus on topics such as financial management, officer transition, meeting management, conflict resolution, organizational liability, co-curricular involvement, leadership styles, and team building.
UCLEAD UCLEAD is a distinguished leadership program that will allow you to learn more about yourself and develop as a leader who can be respected and trusted in your organization, workplace and community. Sessions will provide opportunity to discuss and practice skill development.
In Phase One you will enhance your personal leadership and role in team/group effectiveness, facilitation skills, public speaking and knowledge of volunteer opportunities and campus resources.
In Phase Two you will continue your development and reflection in the areas of ethics, active listening, cultural competence and conceptual transitions.
This program will continue to offer more phases allowing many opportunities for learning, practicing, providing service to the community, mentoring and facilitating. For every two phases you complete you will receive recognition of completion and achievement.
CAMP Bearcat A new initiative developed in 2003, this leadership opportunity focuses on four pillars: Connections, Academics, Traditions and Service. This collaborative effort with Procter & Gamble and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honorary assists first-year students with acclimating to campus, understanding the importance of co-curricular involvement and UC tradition.
Annual Leadership Conference An annual event since 1985, this one-day leadership conference focuses on building individual student leader skills and connections. Recently, more experienced student leaders have taken an active role in the execution of the conference by becoming small group facilitators and presenters.
Leadership Classes We offer two classes each year through the Department of Counseling in the College of Education. The winter quarter class, titled “Leading Yourself,” deals with exploring individual leadership styles, motivation styles and skill building. The spring quarter class, titled “Leading Others,” deals with understanding group dynamics, motivating others, and leading others. Both are for 400-level 3 credit classes.
P&G Leadership Experience First implemented in 2001, this leadership experience is for junior level students. The emphasis is to provide students with key leadership skills to assist them with being marketable for employment, specifically for Procter & Gamble. Students who are selected to attend this conference have a "foot in the door" when it comes time for employment and internships opportunities with Procter & Gamble.
Racial Awareness Program Created in 1986, the Racial Awareness Program (better known as RAPP) is a forum for students to challenge, debate, and educate each other on issues of diversity. The motto "Each One Teach One" is adopted from an ancient African proverb. It captures the importance and focus that the RAPP program places on individual understanding, effort, and commitment to diversity awareness. RAPP believes that each person can affect their environment in a positive way through their actions and their attitude.
Honors Leadership Certificate Program For Honors students only, we offer a leadership certificate program emphasizing individual learning needs when it comes to building leadership skills and abilities. The program consists of a Gateway class, 4 additional courses, a capstone course and leadership activities.
Who’s Who Among Students at American Universities & Colleges Since 1982, UC has celebrated the accomplishments of its graduates through the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Graduating seniors are selected for this national distinction based on academic achievement; participation and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities; service to the University; and potential for future achievements.
UC Recognition Ceremony Each year, the University honors its community during the University Recognition Ceremony, which traditionally takes place on the third Sunday of May. Awards such as the Presidential Leadership Medal of Excellence, Sprit of Community, Mr. Bearcat, and the C-Ring Women’s Leadership Award are given to outstanding students, faculty, and staff.
