University of Cincinnati

Transitions

Transitions' is a first year experience program that utilizes a Rites of Passage curriculum to bring a higher retention and graduation rate for Black Students at the University of Cincinnati. The program assists students with their adjustment to college and provides workshops, mentors, and other activities so that participants are successful. In addition, Transitions students are connected to faculty, staff, upper class students and other members of the university family. Transitions’ also adds the special component of being a safe haven within the larger university community. There are three goals that the Transitions program targets each year which are:

  • Connecting Cultural Consciousness-Through Programs such as the Ushindi, Kuamka, and the Akwaaba
  • Emerging Creative Minds-Through Study Tables, Leadership conferences, and speakers
  • Affirming Positive Attitudes-Through BASE workshops, various programs, mentoring and weekly Transitions meetings
