WORDS FROM PAST ASB PARTICIPANTS
"People
have told me that they can’t describe what the trip is like, so I
should just go and experience it for myself. Well, I went, and I
personally have first hand experienced it, and honestly, I am at a loss
for words now that I have received. I feel more sure of myself, more
understanding, wiser, and I guess you could say I understand the world
a wee-bit better. In the end, I am forever grateful for this
opportunity."
-Michael Reilman, 2006
"We, being young and impressionable, learned about culture, people and
life outside ourselves; who knows who we will be able to feed or how we
might benefit from the insight. Perhaps something as low key as a
return visit or as grand as another Willie will spring forth from
Alternative Spring Break 2006. For me, a return trip is likely, and
this small “Peace Corp” type trip has whetted my appetite for more.
Many have said – and I am no exception – this was a life altering
experience."
-Mark McCrate, 2006
"While this past week was hopefully rewarding and meaningful, the
experience and learning should not stop once we step foot off the plane
in Cincinnati. We all have the responsibility to continue this
journey- share what you saw, what you heard, what you learned. How
will this past week affect your future? How will it impact your
present? Challenge yourself to ask these more difficult questions.
You are a different person than you were a week ago. Let this week’s
journey shine through in all you do!
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart; thank you. You all inspire me on a daily basis and I am forever grateful.
-Sandra Sherman, 2003
“Midway through the week and the group is beginning to tire physically,
but emotionally and spiritually we have remained strong… I was
extremely impressed with the amount of dedication this group had…
everyone was very anxious to learn about the culture of Mexico and
learn some of the language.”
- Tawanna Childs, 2001
“As
I peer out the window in the flight back to Cincinnati, I see the
silhouette of the sun behind the puffy white clouds miles and miles
into the distance. This trip also fades into the past, but its
silhouette will not fade away, for it shines in our souls and our
spirits. We reflected on this subject this morning. All ten members
of our close-knit group realizing what this trip has meant in our own
personal lives. We all felt as if a lot was accomplished. I
personally feel so very blessed to know, and the opportunity to get to
know, all who poured their hearts out in this Spring Break
week.”
