About the Community Engagement Leadership House

What is the Community Engagement Leadership House (CCE House)?
The Community Engagement Leadership House is a community in Stratford Heights where like-minded students interested in community service and civic engagement have the opportunity to live, learn, and serve the community together.

Where is the CCE house?
The CCE House is located in Stratford Heights facing Clifton Avenue.  The CCE office is on the entry level, with the housing units in the upper levels.

What will my responsibilities be as a CCE House member?
As a member of the CCE House you will not have to complete a specific number of community service hours.  However there are other responsibilities for house members such as:

  • Attending Visionary Leadership Day, which offers house members the opportunity to develop relationships with their cohort, while building community, mapping out the year, and, of course, having fun.
  • Involvement in the  House Service Project, in which house members will create a community engagement vision, develop goals surrounding that vision, support their vision through active participation in a project, and reflect on the experience.
  • Participation in monthly house gatherings that could include house dinners, social get-togethers, workshops, or other events

Are there other activities I can be involved in through the CCE House?
Social events, workshops, and service projects will be offered to students in the house throughout the year.  We currently offer house dinners throughout each quarter to give students a break from cooking, and to offer students the opportunity to gather for some fun.  We have also had a Wii party, holiday parties, and students have even enjoyed painting nights in the past.  Workshops offer students the ability to network, and serve as an experiential learning experience.  House members are also encouraged to become involved in other service projects in which they may be interested.

If I am accepted into the CCE House will I have to do a specific number of community service hours during the year?
No.  Students living in the Leadership House are not expected to complete a specific number of hours.  However, we do ask for a strong commitment to service from those living in the house.

What is the cost to live in the CCE house?
Stratford Heights is now managed by U.C. Housing and Food Services.  Information on the pricing, meal plans, housing agreements, and housing applications can be found on the housing website at www.uc.edu/housing.

Can I visit the house?
Absolutely!  To schedule to visit the house, simply contact Jen Carter at carterja@email.uc.edu or 513-556-1559.  Appointments can be scheduled during the day, evening or weekend.

Are there resources available to help me with my studies?
Academics should be the top priority of all students in the Leadership House.  We offer free access to a study room that may be used for individual study, or as a meeting place for study groups.  Engaging in community service also is a productive way to enhance your learning experience.  U.C. also offers many options for academic assistance that the CCE staff can direct you to.
