Over-the-Rhine Community Housing (OTRCH) Volunteers Needed 12/12
Over-the-Rhine Community Housing is a non-profit organization that focuses on developing and managing resident-centered, affordable housing in an effort to promote inclusive community.
| When |
Saturday 12/12 |
| Who |
8-10 UC students |
| Where |
Over-the-Rhine Community (114 E. 14th Street) |
| What |
Renovating apartments for low-income housing. Tasks will vary by Saturday. You may be painting, spackling, tiling (floor work), landscaping, or something else entirely! |
Getting There
|
Off-street parking is available. Depending on the Saturday, a limited number of rides may be available with the site leader (a UC student). Also, the 17 and 19 buses run from UC to the work site. (See Metro for schedules.) The CCE and your site leader will work with you to make sure you can get to the site. |
Do you have a car? Students also are needed to volunteer as site leaders for these Saturday projects. On Saturday morning, the site leader transports paperwork to the Over-the-Rhine Community Housing office and ensures that all volunteers are able to get to the service site. Site leaders then work alongside other volunteers under the direction of Over-the-Rhine Community Housing staff or skilled volunteers, so no construction experience is needed--just a car and willingness to lead.
Want to volunteer or be a site leader? Stop by the CCE office to sign up for one or more Saturday(s). Contact us at community.engagement@uc.edu or (513) 556-1559 with questions.
UC electronic media student Clifton Sneed has created a short video about Over-the-Rhine Community Housing and how UC students are involved. You can watch it on YouTube HERE. A great peek at what volunteers do! |

The Economics Center for Education & Research Needs Your Help! Can you help us? We are in need of 20-30 students who would be willing to help us with our SCIENCE NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM to be held at Museum Center in March 2010 (date tba). Students will be helping 1 to 2 afternoons in late January and early February (noon to 2:30) at Taft Elementary where Hughes High School seniors will be helping 6th, 7th and 8th grade Taft Elementary Students construct science toys. This event will be held at Taft Elementary (on Auburn Avenue across from Christ Hospital) near the bus line.
These toys will then be mass produced in take home kits that the students will “sell” to the younger students for “school cash” that they have been earning for making good choices in the classroom 6 weeks prior to the event. These toys are very simple. They are harmonicas made from popcicle sticks, gak made from glue and borax, etc…).
The culminating event will transpire in the evening (5:00-7:30 p.m.) at Museum Center where the students and parents will be transported by bus to Museum Center. There they will sell the kits, have a room where the toys can be constructed, meet engineers and students, like yourselves, and tour the science portion of Museum Center.
Please consider helping us! A general information meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1 at TUC. Please reply to Valerie L. Krugh, PhD at krughv@ucmail.uc.edu or 513-556-2949 if interested!
