The Economics Center for Education & Research Needs Your Help! Can you help us? We are in need of 20-30 students who would be willing to help us with our SCIENCE NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM to be held at Museum Center in March 2010 (date tba). Students will be helping 1 to 2 afternoons in late January and early February (noon to 2:30) at Taft Elementary where Hughes High School seniors will be helping 6th, 7th and 8th grade Taft Elementary Students construct science toys. This event will be held at Taft Elementary (on Auburn Avenue across from Christ Hospital) near the bus line.
These toys will then be mass produced in take home kits that the students will “sell” to the younger students for “school cash” that they have been earning for making good choices in the classroom 6 weeks prior to the event. These toys are very simple. They are harmonicas made from popcicle sticks, gak made from glue and borax, etc…).
The culminating event will transpire in the evening (5:00-7:30 p.m.) at Museum Center where the students and parents will be transported by bus to Museum Center. There they will sell the kits, have a room where the toys can be constructed, meet engineers and students, like yourselves, and tour the science portion of Museum Center.
Please consider helping us! A general information meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1 at TUC. Please reply to Valerie L. Krugh, PhD at krughv@ucmail.uc.edu or 513-556-2949 if interested! |

That’s all it takes to be a mentor and make a meaningful difference in a Covington student’s life. Opportunities are available for mentors to work with students in grades K – 10 in both community-based and school-based programs.
