Join Bearcat Buddies, a tutoring program through the Center for Community Engagement, to get connected with tutoring opportunities in elementary schools close to campus!

The mission of Bearcat Buddies is to provide University of Cincinnati students with the training and tools they need to be effective, reliable tutors in selected Cincinnati area schools.

If you are interested in tutoring through Bearcat Buddies, please look at the school information sheet and decide what schools you are interested in and what time would work best for you to tutor. Then fill out the tutoring application form and email it to bearcatbuddies@gmail.com or drop it off at the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) in the Stratford Heights complex.

The CCE will contact you to confirm training dates and tutoring preferences and to complete the background check process

Background check information:
All Cincinnati schools require their tutors to obtain background checks.

If you have been a Hamilton County resident for the past 5 years, your background check can be processed by the Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati at the mandatory training.

If you have lived in a county bordering Hamilton County for the past 5 years (Boone, Butler, Campbell, Clermont, Dearborne, Kenton, and Warren Counties), your background check must come from the Sheriff’s office of your county and a small fee is required. The Center for Community Engagement cannot pay the fee at this time, but we are able to help facilitate the background check.

If you have not lived in any of these counties or have moved in the last five years, you require a national background check. Those can be processed through the Literacy Network for $50. The Center for Community Engagement cannot pay the fee at this time. If you are interested in tutoring, but the fee presents an issue, please contact the Center for Community Engagement.

St. Clement and Corryville Catholic have different background check requirements. If you list either of these schools in your application, the CCE will contact you with more information.
