Groups

We offer a variety of groups to assist students address personal concerns. Groups are a highly effective approach to treatment for many common adjustment problems and psychological concerns. Many people are hesitant at first about joining a group but quickly find that sharing their concerns with others, hearing about other people's similar experiences, and both giving and receiving emotional support are very helpful.

All participants in a group agree to keeping confidentiality about who is in the group and what is disclosed. Groups may be the sole treatment for an individual or complement ongoing therapy. Groups can also be a good way to continue to benifit from services after finishing individual counseling.

Our groups start early in a quarter and usually last for the remainder of the quarter, with the possibility of continuing into the next quarter. We ask students to make a commitment to stay in a group for the full quarter to get the most for the experience and maintain continuity for all group memebers. For continuing groups, often new members may join at the new quarter's starting point. All potential members of a group meet with a group leader in advance for a screening interview. In this way, we can usually find a good fit between a student and a particular group.

All groups are free to UC students. For more information, please call 513-556-0648.
