Eligibility
Students eligible to participate in the McNair Postbaccalaureate Acheivement Program must :
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America
- Be a first generation college student (neither parent holding a Bachelor's degree) and come from a low socioeconomic background (established by the US Department of Education) OR be a member of an ethnic group underrepresented in graduate studies (African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaskan Native)
- Have completed a minimum of 60 college credit hours
- Have a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA
All majors are welcome with emphasis in biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, math and engineering.
The University of Cincinnati will work closely with McNair Program participants, using the following services:
- Research Opportunities
- Mentoring Program
- Seminars and Workshops
- Tutoring
- Summer Internships
- Academic Counseling (goal setting to complete the undergraduate degree as well as an action plan for graduate school entrance and completion)
- Assistance in obtaining financial aid
The ultimate goal of the McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is to increase the number of students from disadvantaged backgrounds obtaining their doctorates.
