Special Considerations for the College-Conservatory of Music Students and Parents


Transfer Students

If you are a CCM transfer student, you are required to attend the morning sessions on the first day, Monday, July 14, starting at 8:00 a.m. and the College Program and registration sessions on the second day, Tuesday, July 15, from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • MUSIC HISTORY TEST: If you are a music major transfer student, you are required to take the Music History test at 8:00 a.m. and the Music Theory test at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14.  Please arrive before 8:00 a.m. in order to check in before your tests.
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEST: If you have had two or more years of French, German, or Spanish you may take the optional foreign language tests online, (see page 11 of the Bearcat Bound booklet) or you may take it at Bearcat Bound Orientation on the first day, Monday, July 14 starting at 8:00 a.m.
  • ENGLISH ESSAY TEST: If you have not already completed your freshman English requirement you are required to write an English placement essay before you arrive for orientation.  You may write the English placement essay online.  You may register online at www.uc.edu/englishplacement to write the essay online.
  • All transfers are required to attend the CCM Welcome at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14.

After the tests and the CCM Welcome session, transfer students have an option to attend the rest of the first day activities and the morning sessions of the second day.  If you choose to attend all these sessions, you should register for the orientation program, pay the orientation fee, and check in between 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. on the first day, Monday, July 14.  Check-in is located on the third floor of University Pavilion.  If you choose not to attend the general orientation sessions, you must check in at the special transfer orientation table also between 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. on the first day, Monday, July 14 on the third floor of University Pavilion.  Please note, that if you do not pay the orientation fee, you will not receive the orientation benefits such as the Bearcat Bound binder, the planned orientation meals, or parking passes.

Freshman Students


Check-in Location and Check in Time

All CCM freshman will have their orientation on Monday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 15.  The Orientation check-in desk will be open from 7:30-9:15 a.m. on Monday, July 14 on the third floor of University Pavilion.  Check-in for overnight stay is in Siddall Residence Hall lobby from 4:30 - 9:00 p.m.  Please leave your luggage in the trunk of your car until check in time.  Linen service is not provided so please bring a sleeping bag or bed sheets, a pillow, blanket, and towels as needed for a one night stay.  You may park in the CCM garage, Calhoun Street garage, Corry garage, Campus Green or Woodside drive garages.  Please proceed promptly to the check-in desk on the third floor of University Pavilion.

Check In times:

  • 7:30-8:00 a.m. - Check in for freshmen CCM University Honors Students and students who have not completed their foreign language placement test.
  • 7:30-9:15 a.m. - Check in fir freshmen who have completed all placement tests and are not in the University Honors Students program. 

Placement Testing

  • MATH: As a CCM student, you are not required to take a math placement test.
  • MUSIC THEORY: All music majors including Musical Theater majors are required to take the Music Theory placement test administered at 10:30 a.m. on the first day, Monday, July 14.
  • ENGLISH: You are required to write your English placement essay before you arrive for your Bearcat Bound Orientation.  You may write your essay online.  You may register online at www.uc.edu/englishplacement to write the essay online.  The English placement essay test will not be offered at Bearcat Bound Orientation. 
    • If you wrote an essay at the Cincinnatus Scholarship competition in February, you will not be required to write another essay.  Your Cincinnatus essay will be used to determine your initial course placement.
    • You will not need to write the English placement essay if you have a 3 or higher in AP English Language Composition or English Literature and Composition or if you have a C or higher in a PSEOP English Composition class.
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE: Voice majors are required to take a foreign language test if the language is French, German,  or Spanish.  Other students have the option of taking these test if they have had two or more years of instruction in these languages.  You may take the language tests, online at home, by simply following the instructions on page 11 of the Bearcat Bound booklet or clicking here or you may also take it on the first day, Monday, July 14 starting at 8:00 a.m.  We recommend that you consider taking the language test if you are eligible, as these languages can be used to meet General Education requirements even if they are not required for your specific program.
