College Specifics


Placement tests may be completed at Bearcat Bound Orientation.  You will need to arrive very early in the morning.  We recommend that you complete your placement tests online.  Online placement testing gives you the opportunity to complete your placement tests early in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace.  You will know immediately what classes you qualify for in math and foreign language (English results will be available at your Bearcat Bound Orientation).

Center for Access and Transition (CAT - 42)
If you have been accepted into the Center for Access and Transition (CAT) you are strongly encouraged to take all of your tests before you arrive for your Bearcat Bound Orientation in the summer.  Your required tests are the English placement essay, reading, math, and foreign language (take the foreign language test only if you have had 2 or more years of French, German or Spanish). You should write the English placement essay at Quick Start or online. You should take the math and foreign language tests at Quick Start or online. The reading test is not available online.  You may take the reading test at Quick Start or at your Bearcat Bound Orientation. 

College of Applied Science (CAS - 32)
If you have been accepted into the College of Applied Science (CAS) you will need to write the English placement essay and take the math placement test.  You should write the English placement essay online at www.uc.edu/englishplacement.  Please see English essay exceptions for Cincinnatus Scholars, PSEOP, and AP Exams.  You are strongly encouraged to take your math placement test online.  The foreign language placement test is optional but if you choose to take it, you may do so online at webcape.byuhtrsc.org/?acct=uc.

College-Conservatory of Music (CCM - 16) 
If you have been accepted into CCM you will only need to take the English placement essay.
You should write the English placement essay online.  Please see English essay exceptions for Cincinnatus Scholars, PSEOP, and AP Exams.  If you are in the voice program, or wish to continue to study a foreign language, then you will also take the foreign language test in French, German or Spanish.  You are stongly encouraged to take your foreign language test online at webcape.byuhtrsc.org/?acct=uc.

College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP - 23)
If you have been accepted in the DAAP programs in Architecture, Pre-Architecture, Interior Design, Pre-Interior Design, Urban Planning, or Urban Studies, you will need to write the English placement essay.  If you have been admitted into the following programs you have to write the English placement essay and take the math placement test because there is a college level math requirement in your curriculum:

    • Digital Design
    • Graphic Design
    • Industrial Design (Design or Transportation track)
    • Fashion Design (Design or Product Development track)
    • Art History (including Visual Arts Teachers Licensure
    • Fine Arts


You should write the English placement essay online or at www.uc.edu/englishplacement.  Please see English essay exceptions for Cincinnatus Scholars, PSEOP, and AP Exams.  It is strongly recommended that you take the math placement test online.  The foreign language test is optional, but if you choose to take it you may do so online at webcape.byuhtrsc.org/?acct=uc.

College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS - 35)
McMicken College of Arts & Sciences (A&S - 15)
College of Business (COB - 22)
College of Nursing (Nursing - 29)
School of Social Work (SSW - 21) 
If you have been accepted in any of the above colleges you will write the English placement essay, and take the math and foreign language placement test. You should write the English placement essay online. Please see English essay exceptions for Cincinnatus Scholars, PSEOP, and AP Exams.  Take the math placement test at blackboard.uc.edu.  Take the foreign language tests online at webcape.byuhtrsc.org/?acct=uc.

College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services (CECH - 18)
College of Engineering (Engineering - 20)

If you have been accepted into one of the above colleges you will write the English placement essay and take the math placement test. You should write the English placement essay online. Please see English essay exceptions for Cincinnatus Scholars, PSEOP, and AP Exams.  Take your math test online at blackboard.uc.edu.  The foreign language test is optional but if you choose to take it you may do so online at webcape.byuhtrsc.org.?acct=uc
