Placement Testing and the Quick Start Program

Online Placement Testing
Placement Tests are not admissions tests, but are used to determine your initial course placements.  We recommend that you complete all your placement tests online.  Online placement testing gives you the opportunity to take your placement tests early.  You may complete almost all your tests online from the comfort of your own home and at your own pace.

To avoid conflict with your high school graduation events and to allow your scores to be readily available at Bearcat Bound Orientation, try to schedule your tests as early as permitted.

Undergraduate students at the University of Cincinnati are required to take placement tests in the areas of math, English, and foreign language before they can take the classes in those areas (for exceptions see College Specifics, Advanced Placement, Cincinnatus Scholarship, and PSEOP).

Quick Start Student Program
Quick Stater is an on-campus placement tewting program.  Like online placement tests, gives you the opportunity to take your placement tests early.  The 2009 Quick Start is on Saturday, June 6.  Check in is 8:30-9:00 a.m. on the 3rd floor of University Pavilion (refer to campus map).  You may register for Quick Start by completing the registration form included in the Quick Start brochure or printing it here.  Phone registration is also available by calling (513) 556-2486.

There is no fee for Quick Start or online placement testing.  When you take your tests online, you will know immediately what classes you qualify for in math and foreign language (English results will be available at your Bearcat Bound Orientation). Students who have not completed their placement tests online or at Quick Start will need to check in earlier on the first day of their Bearcat Bound Orientation.  However, students who have completed all their placement tests do not need to check in until 11:30 a.m.  Please note exceptions to this are CCM students, Honors students and students accepted into the Center for Access and Transition (CAT) who will need to arrive at the time printed in the orientation brochure, their Orientation confirmation card, or registration e-mail.

Quick Start Parent Program
Parents are warmly invited, but not required to come with their students to Quick Start.  The Quick Start Parents program runs concurrently with the Quick Start Testing Program.  There will be discussions and Q&A sessions.  Topics will include making the transition to college, what it is like the first year in the classroom and on campus, financing a college education and information on student success.
