SEE Competitor Presents Research at National Meeting

William Mason High School sophomore and SEE award-winner Raymond Tan was one of only 10 outstanding Ohio science students to present his scientific research at the Feb. 14 annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Francisco. Designated a John H. and Ruth Melvin Memorial STEM Scholar on behalf of The Ohio Academy of Science, Raymond met with peers from 25 other states and interact with world-known scientists including Nobel Laureates to discuss his research project, titled, “Which Room in the House is the Most Contaminated with Bacteria?”

At the 2006 Science & Engineering Expo at UC, Raymond’s project, which earned a superior rating, was awarded $200 from the Southwest Ohio Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education Award in Environmental Science; $150 from the Miami Valley Society of Hazardous Materials Managers Award in Environmental Science, Chemistry or Biology; and $50 from Project STEP.

As a freshman at the 2005 UC Science & Engineering Expo, Raymond won a $150 award for the Outstanding Project in Biochemistry.
