Message from the President

September 2007

Hello Fellow Bearcats,

As fall quarter begins, I wanted to take a minute to update you on a few things that have occurred over the summer.

First , during spring quarter Student Government ran a pilot program using Blackboard Advertisements in an attempt to lower student fees. However, after a very successful pilot, it was determined at this time that the amount of revenue that could be created by these advertisements was not sufficient enough to warrant the intrusion on the academic portal and we have ceased to continue the project.

If you haven’t noticed yet, there have been several changes to our Bearcat Transportation System over the summer. These include brand new busses, a few additional stop, and a new stop timed schedule to help make the BTS more efficient and convenient for students to use. Also, Student Government is now accepting applications for our First Year Internship Program. This program is a collaboration between the Undergraduate Student Government and the office of Student Activity and Leadership Development, which focuses on giving freshman students the opportunity to learn Student Government skills, develop their leadership abilities, and participate in a mentorship program with several Student Government leaders. This internship program will host weekly meetings on Monday evenings at 4pm. They will include guest speakers, leadership development, and Student Government workshops. Applications are available online here or you can pick one up in the Student Government Office. Applications are due by October 5th in the Student Government Office, 655 Steger Student Life Center.
