Minutes from Open Forum held on Nov. 30th at 4:30
Items - Discussed:
- Newly passed Senate Bill S.5016 regarding the composition of funded groups - graduates and undergraduates -membership requirements; since the President vetoed the bill on Wednesday, Nov. 29 th , the requirement requiring 51% undergraduate in a group will not apply to this current school year.
- Budgets that are denied - Why? Usually it has to do with the fact that students aren't advertising the event properly - one percent of your budgets must be used for advertising according to the new criteria. Another reason is because students who fill budgets out are not informed on how to do it and the UFB criteria. Only the person who came the Treasurer's Workshop or who has signed the proper form in the student group file is authorized to request funding. Lastly, students need to come to UFB members during their office hours (listed on the web) for assistance and their budget has a lot better chance of being approved.
- Appeal Processes: The key thing is to submit in writing no later than one week after a budget is denied - deadline is 3:00 on Thursday in order to be heard that evening.
- UFB Feedback form: Please tell us how you feel about UFB by filling out this form and submitting it in our locked box in the UFB office. Most all forms are submitted thus far are very positive.
- Do we fund socials? - No, events must have an educational twist to it.
- What if students receive academic credit? We cannot fund events that are mandatory if a student needs to attend in order to receive academic credit.
- Do we fund field trips? - If they are open to all student groups; advertising is involved; and it is not affiliated with academic credit.
- Questions were answered regarding specific group budgets.
Free pizza, soda and cookies was provided.
