UCAA maintains close
partnerships with the
colleges, units and constituent
groups within the university
community. These collaborative
efforts with Athletics,
Admissions, UC International,
University Communications, the
UC Foundation, the President’s
and Provost’s offices, the
Division of Professional Practice,
UC Parents Association, Campus
Police, Campus Services, various
student organizations and
others helped to execute events,
support key initiatives, and carry
the UCAA message to various
audiences and constituencies,
which in turn helps strengthen
delivery of the UC2019 strategic
plan.
To better serve the university,
UC alumni and students, and
fulfill its critical mission, the UC
Alumni Association engaged
in development, strategic
partnership and sponsorship
efforts in FY12. These efforts
collectively raised a total of
$859,158 to directly support the
organization.
UCAA received 4,268 gifts to the
organization throughout the FY.
There were 2,069 unique alumni
donors (those who gave to UCAA
as their only UC gift); most donors
tend to support multiple causes
at UC.
$157,777 was raised through
annual support. FY12 ended
with 4,119 Loyal Bearcat Society
donors (giving $50 or more
during the year to UCAA), and
5,512
William Howard Taft Society
donors (having given at least
$2,500 cumulatively to UCAA).
About $350,000 was raised
through UCAA’s affinity partners,
sponsorship and in-kind support.
About $12,000 was donated by
222
members of the senior Class
of 2012 in the Senior Class Gift.
Those funds were earmarked to
support renovations to the Myers
Alumni Center. That initiative was
recognized at a UCAA-hosted
celebration event for about 100
graduating senior donors.
A total of $104,918 was
raised specifically to fund the
organization’s various scholarship
programs.
A campaign to fund necessary
upgrades to the Myers Alumni
Center was defined and begun,
generating a $250,000 seed gift.
The campaign seeks to make
physical improvements to the
facility that more effectively
support the various groups
and meetings hosted by UCAA,
enhance the common/public
spaces throughout the first floor
and courtyard, and make the
building a more versatile and
welcoming home for alumni,
students and friends of UC.
In the winter of 2012, a revised
online registration process
provided alumni and friends with
the opportunity to incorporate a
gift with their event registrations;
by the end of FY12, 100 donors
had made gifts totaling $4,896
through this vehicle.
The annual Central Ohio Golf
Outing, organized by the UC
Foundation’s Columbus Proudly
Cincinnati Campaign Committee
and UCAA’s Central Ohio alumni
network, drew more than 80
alumni and friends, raising more
than $11,000 to fund scholarships
for incoming Columbus-area
freshmen. The event included UC
baseball coach Brian Cleary and
UC basketball Hall of Famers Tony
Yates, George Wilson, Tay Baker
and RolandWest.
The lottery and auction sale
of tailgate spaces within UCAA’s
Bearcats Blitz events during the
2011
football season, as well
as other ancillary sponsorship
activities, generated funds to
underwrite the Blitz events
and support general UCAA
operations.
The Myers Alumni Center
hosted 150 events of various
kinds, attracting nearly 20,000
total attendees. Events served to
engage members of the UC family
as well as the larger Cincinnati
community.
