Why am I Cincinnati Smart?
Well, let me take you through not only my successes but my mistakes and failures that have made me the person I am today. As Thomas Edison once said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
For many, I've never disclosed my troubles and failures in life but if it weren't for those barriers I wouldn't be standing where I am today. It took me 3 tries to get into the No.1 ranked Industrial Design program in DAAP. But I did it. Even a year later after getting in I was hit again with defeat. Two weeks before the final quarter I had a mental breakdown due to my ADD and was unable to finish the quarter. Ultimately, my professors held me back and I would repeat the term a year later when the classes were offered again. I didn't let this stop me. If anything, this fueled my desire to want this more than anything. Fast forward 2 years and I'm still hitting road bumps. After what I thought was a great summer semester, my studio professor gave me a C for my work. A week later I was offered a co-op with one of top 5 design teams in country.
So why am I disclosing my darkest secret that only few knew before? Because these troubles and failures have made me who I am today and I would not change it for the world! I am a strong believer anyone can accomplish anything when they put their mind to it. No matter what failures, no matter how big the failures are, you can do it! If I can, so can you!
I am Cincinnati Smart because I have done what others have told me was impossible, what others said I wasn't able to do, and more importantly I have followed my dreams without giving up on myself!
Currently, I am a senior pursuing a BS in Industrial Design with a Minor in Marketing in the top ranked College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). Past co-ops totalling almost 2 years of work experience include MeadWestvaco (Dayton, OH), The First Years (Boston, MA), Radio Flyer (Chicago, IL) Priority Designs (Columbus, OH), and Motorola Mobility, A Google Company (Sunnyvale/Silicon Valley, CA). At the present time I am working as an Industrial Design Co-op at the award winning creative agency New Deal Design (www.newdealdesign.com) in San Francisco, California lead by founder and Fast Company contributor, Gadi Amit.
Side Note: The video I supplied was filmed and edited by myself which showcases the crazy but extremely talented Industrial Design Class of 2014 that I call family. The footage takes place during this past summer semester and all over the UC campus, DAAP, Cincinnati, and class trip to Gatlinburg, TN.
