Fay E. Tooson is a Field Service Instructor at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati. Her fields of special interest include social work across diverse populations, social work administration, community assessment, health disparities, and community mental health. At the School of Social Work, Professor Tooson teaches courses in Social Welfare Policy, Social Work Practice in Organizations & Communities, Human Behavior and the Social Environment (HBSE) – Families, HBSE – Individuals, HBSE - Organizations & Communities, and Family Treatment. Professor Tooson also taught in the Social Work Department at Northern Kentucky University as well as teaching behavioral science courses at Wilmington College, Cincinnati.
Before joining the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work faculty, Professor Tooson retired from a distinguished career in public service with the Cincinnati Health Department encompassing a variety of practical experience in both community health and administrative settings. She facilitated cognitive-behavioral groups for several years at National Corrective Training Institute (NCTI) with various offender populations enrolled in the Hamilton County Criminal Diversion Program. She also served as academic advisor in the Steps Toward Education Progress and Success (STEPS) Program at the University of Cincinnati in which retention rates for nontraditional students was the focus of this initiative--a component of the department previously known as the College of Evening and Continuing Education.
A native Cincinnatian, Professor Tooson graduated from the University of Cincinnati where she received a BS in Sociology with a Social Work minor. She received her MSW and her Doctor of Education in Counselor Education from the University of Cincinnati. Professor Tooson has been a faculty member at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati since 2007.
