Michael Tebbe is a new professor to UC’s School of Social Work as of September, 2006, and he has taught courses in the past as an adjunct professor. He has also been a liaison in the Social Work Field Placement Program for the past twelve years, both in Cincinnati and Dayton areas. For twenty two years, he has had a private practice in the Cincinnati area which has the distinction of being the only social work administered private practice in this area.
Professor Tebbe teaches courses on interviewing skills, social work direct practice, issues in individual psychotherapy and generalist practice courses. He also has extensive clinical experience from Children’s Services in Hamilton County, Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati and Family Service of Cincinnati. At Family Service he was director of the psychoeducational group services division. He has conducted groups on parenting, discipline techniques, self esteem enhancement and family systems. His expertise includes work with individuals, couples and families. While at Children’s Hospital, he served on the Cincinnati community’s child abuse prevention task force and taught a course for graduate students enrolled in the University of Kentucky’s Social Work Program, as well as conducted seminars on child abuse for medical residents and interns.
He has facilitated conflict management and resolution groups for businesses, corporations and churches.
Mr. Tebbe has served on numerous community boards and has presented workshops and seminars to hundreds of people. He especially likes the contact with the community. He has been the co-founder of the Cincinnati Chapter of Compassionate Friends ( a support for parents who have experienced the death of a child) and served on their board for 20 years. He now serves on some social work school committees such as BSW, MSW, Alumni and is an advisor to the Graduate Students Organization along with another faculty member.
Professor Tebbe is a graduate of the Athenaeum of Ohio with a BA in Philosophy and received his MSW from Ohio State University, College of Social Work. He is licensed by the State of Ohio as an independent practitioner.
