Interests: Serious mental illness, recovery, mental health services research, behavior analysis, program evaluation Borkin is Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati. Her fields of special interest include serious mental illness, recovery, mental health services research, behavior analysis, and program evaluation.
At the School of Social Work, Professor Borkin teaches courses in social work practice, mental health, specialized mental health, and policy implications of mental health practice. Professor Borkin also directs the Specialized Mental Health Program at the School of Social Work. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the UC President's award for instructional technology, the American Psychiatric Association’s Award for Exemplary Interdisciplinary Collaboration for the Multidisciplinary Project Consortium, and the School of Social Work was awarded the Excellence in Training Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill for the Specialized Mental Health Program. Prior to coming to the University of Cincinnati, Professor Borkin taught in the schools of social work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Michigan.
Professor Borkin has published and presented extensively in the areas of mental health, wellness, and recovery. She has completed numerous research projects including an evaluation of the Consumer Wellness Project, an impact study of the Hamilton County Recovery Initiative, and an assessment of the health care experiences of uninsured workers.
Professor Borkin is a graduate of the University of Chicago and received her MSW from the University of Michigan where she also received her PhD in social work and psychology. Professor Borkin has been a faculty member of the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati since 1981.
