Gerald Bostwick currently serves as the Director and as a Professor at the School of Social Work of the University of Cincinnati. He also serves as Chair of both the BSW and MSW degree programs. His fields of special interest include children and families, process and outcome research, and research methodology.
At the School of Social Work, Professor Bostwick teaches courses in human behavior, social work practice, research, and child and family practice. He has been recognized on numerous occasions by students and alumni of the School of Social Work for his outstanding teaching. Professor Bostwick also taught in the School of Social Work at Michigan State University, was a Child Welfare Fellow at the University of California Berkeley, and was an Edith Abbott Teaching Fellow at the University of Chicago. Professor Bostwick has practiced as a family therapist and as a school social worker.
Professor Bostwick has published and presented in the areas of child welfare, curriculum development in child welfare, outcome evaluation, and using computers in clinical practice. His community service activities include serving as a consultant for local social services agencies, as a Red Cross disaster volunteer, and as a news media consultant in the field of child welfare. Professor Bostwick also serves as a reviewer of MSW program proposals for the Ohio Board of Regents and is a member of the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program Advisory Committee. Professor Bostwick has served on a variety of University committees such as the Faculty Senate, the Council of Associate Deans, General Education, and Just Community.
Professor Bostwick is a graduate of the University of Missouri, St. Louis with a BA in psychology/philosophy and received an MSW from the University of St. Louis School of Social Work. He received his PhD from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. Professor Bostwick has been a faculty member at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati since 1985.
