Sophia F. Dziegielewski is a Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati. Her fields of interest primarily focus on two major areas: health and mental health in the time-limited practice setting. She supports her research and practice activity with over 95 publications, including 6 textbooks and 56 peer-reviewed articles all in the area of health and mental health. In addition, she has also conducted over 400 workshops and community presentations on health care topics such as psychopharmacology, herbal preparations, addictive disorders, mental health assessment, brief therapy techniques, evidence-based and practice-based practice strategy, ethical principles in health care research, and documentation and treatment planning in today's health care environment.
Professor Dziegielewski teaches courses in research methodology, practice evaluation, quantitative data analysis, psychopharmacology, and other courses in the area of health and mental health. Professor Dziegielewski has extensive clinical and administrative experience and in the national magazine "Social Worker Today" in 2003 a feature story about Dr. Dziegielewski referred to her as a "legend" in her field. Prior to serving as Dean at the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work and while at the University of Central Florida, she was the recipient of numerous awards including the University Faculty Mentoring and Leadership Award 2002, both the University and the College Teaching Awards in 2002, Social Worker of the year for the State of Tennessee, and The Director’s Award in 1995 from the United States Public Health Service. In 2004 her project evaluation on foster care in the State of Florida received national attention and she accompanied agency personnel to present it as a model for the Commissioner on Health in Washington DC.
Professor Dziegielewski is a BA graduate in Sociology from the University of Central Florida and received her MSW and Ph.D. in Social Work from Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL. Dr. Dziegielewski is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and received her appointment as Professor and Dean in the School of Social Work in August of 2004.
