Art Knighton is Associate Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati. He teaches courses in the social work administration concentration including social work practice with organizations and communities, social work administration, program planning and implementation, and the management of human and financial resources. Before joining the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work faculty, Professor Knighton taught social work at Mankato State University in Minnesota, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Duquesne University, Bryn Mawr College, and The University of Tennessee. He also served as the Executive Deputy Director of the Urban League of Rochester, New York.

Professor Knighton is the author of the book Administration of the Human Services: A Practical Workbook for Managers. He has published articles and presented in the areas of managing human service organizations with limited resources, strategies for purposive neighborhood development, and closing the service gaps for homeless women with families. Professor Knighton has facilitated several research projects including the GAPS (Gaining Access to Programs and Services) project and policing of African-American males in Cincinnati. Currently he is a co-principal investigator for an evaluation of the HOPE VI Community and Supportive Services for the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Professor Knighton is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a BA in sociology and social work. He received his MSW in community organizations and administration from University of Michigan, School of Social Work and his PhD in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. Professor Knighton has been a faculty member at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati since 1980.

Professor Knighton is a former member of the U.S. Army 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) stationed in Bad Tölz, Germany from 1963 to 1965. He speaks fluent German.
