Admission to the Master of Social Work Program
To pursue the Master of Social Work (MSW), you must meet certain requirements. The requirements that apply to you depend on which MSW program you pursue.
Full-Time Two-Year or Part-Time Programs
To be admitted to either the full-time two-year or part-time Master of Social Work (MSW) programs of study, you must:
- Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Have an overall grade point average of 2.5; and a 3.0 in upper-level undergraduate work.
- Have 15 quarter credits of social sciences, a human biology or physical science course, and a statistics course.*
- Complete the necessary steps to apply.
* Of the 15 credit hours of social science required, you must have at least one course in each of the following: psychology, economics or political science, and sociology or anthropology.
One-Year Advanced Standing Program
To be admitted to the one-year advanced standing program must:
- Have a bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited college or university;
- Have a 3.0 overall undergraduate grade point average; and
- Provide references supporting your ability to do advanced level practice, and
- Complete the necessary steps to apply.
If your native language is not English, you must also score 200 or higher on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) paper-based test or 190 on the computer-based test and a score of 55 or higher on the Test of Spoken English (TSE). This requirement applies no matter what program you choose.
