Junior Chelsea Gerken is not a typical future pharmacist. After she leaves the classroom and closes her books, she hits the track. Literally. Chelsea, who was recruited as a track star, holds UC's record for the javelin throw. But though she is an accomplished heptathlete, Chelsea wanted a college "with the rigor that would make me competitive professionally."
When she first looked at schools, Chelsea had to decide between UC and her dad's alma mater, another major university in another state. But when she visited the other college for an engineering camp, she stayed in a dorm room "that hadn't changed a bit since my dad was there. And it doesn't come close to how well I'm living at UC."
For Chelsea, a recipient of UC’s prestigious Cincinnatus scholarship, achievement is par for the course. She is now considering advanced study at UC's College of Pharmacy, which has already accepted her. What does she do when not studying or working out? Chelsea participates in UC's Leader Shape program for future student leaders and enjoys her downtime at the multipurpose, state-of-the-art Lindner Athletic Center. "As a student athlete at UC," Chelsea says, "I get the best of every experience."
