Chase Beckmann, senior distance runner on the University of Cincinnati Bearcat men’s track and field team, as well as the cross country team, and a student in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business (CoB), consistently accumulates achievements both on and off the field. Beckmann, a finance major and member of the Lindner Honors PLUS program, admits to being challenged on a daily basis.
“As a student-athlete, you are challenged every day. You find yourself juggling everything between the classroom, homework, practice and competing,” Beckmann remarks.
As a consistent Dean’s List student, Beckmann advises fellow students, especially student-athletes that the key to success is to always find time to study. “You may not believe it but studying makes all the difference. Just find time to do it and it will always pay off in the long run,” he encourages.
Off the field and in the classroom, Beckmann’s academic career has been eye-opening on many different levels. Beckmann reflects, “The thing that I value most about my finance major is how diverse it truly is. Fortunately, I’m not pigeon holed with my major. Thanks to my cooperative education, I have realized my career field is broad and seemingly limitless. My future is what I choose to make it and I’m proud that I will be entering my field with the excellent level of professionalism that my education has provided.”
Having just returned from a Business Honors Program trip to Europe, Beckmann is refreshed and eagerly anticipates the upcoming school year. Sure to be yet another busy year for the senior, he is optimistic about the future and remains relentless in reaching new personal bests, both on and off the field.
While the Blacklick, OH native maintains an impressive 3.77 GPA, he continues to reach new personal bests on the field. Last season, Beckmann finished sixth in the 3000m Steeplechase at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships. He came to UC with multiple achievements in hand from his years at Gahanna Lincoln High School.
Some of Beckmann’s high school bests include being: a four-year letter winner, two-time captain of both the cross country and track teams, two-time academic all-state selection in both cross country and track, and an all-state selection in cross country during his senior season. He was the district champion in the 1600 meters during his junior season, and he helped Gahanna Lincoln earn three league titles, three district championships, two regional crowns and a state championship. Beckmann posted personal records of 4:23.25 in the 1600m and 10:06.99 in the 3200m.
As Beckmann sprints toward the finish line of graduation, his accomplishments both in the classroom and out keep UC a stride ahead of the rest!
