This is an exciting time for UC with President Pinto’s unveiling of our Strategic Direction – Next Lives Here. More than words on a page, this is a call to action for all members of our university community to co-create the future of higher education – now! Through inclusion and innovation, UC will lead the way in continuing its vital role as one of the greatest assets for our city and beyond.
As many of you may know, I am a hometown girl and a graduate of our Cincinnati Public Schools as well as a UC alumna. So it goes without saying that I agreed immediately when President Pinto asked me to lead the CPS Strong pathway.
If you believe in the transformative power of education, then you realize how much CPS Strong represents a tremendous opportunity to further strengthen our partnership with Cincinnati Public Schools. There are so many students of promise eager to become members of our Bearcat family and join our alumni ranks. We can make that happen!
Within the next month, an inventory will be taken of the multiple touch points our colleges and units have with our Cincinnati Public Schools. From there, an intersectional leadership team will convene to assess the sustainability and impact of current initiatives as well as to solicit proposals for new ideas. Then we will design the CPS Strong pathway, a conceptual model that will focus on five areas to benefit our CPS students:
- Access and recruitment;
- Retention and campus engagement;
- Personal and professional development;
- Graduation and placement; and
- Alumni engagement.
I will provide updates in the coming months and look forward to your participation. Now, more than ever, I encourage you to unleash your creativity and be willing to share your perspectives and ideas. Let’s invest in our future today by setting our young people on a path toward success.
Together we can . . .
