Ohio Assessments for Educators

In September 2013, the Ohio Assessments for Educators will replace the Praxis II Subject Assessments as the licensing exams for teachers in the state of Ohio. Like the Praxis II assessments, the OAEs will assess both pedagogy and content knowledge of particular subject areas.

Testing Services will continue to administer the computerized Praxis II Subject Assessments in addition to the Ohio Assessments for Educators. Please note that the replacement of Praxis II assessments with OAEs is only relevant to educators seeking licensure in the state of Ohio. For information about teaching licensure outside of Ohio, please contact your state's board of education.

Descriptions of the OAE assessments can be found here: http://www.oh.nesinc.com/PageView.aspx?f=GEN_Tests.html

Most OAE assessments are single tests.  However, the following assessments include two subtests:

  • Computer/Technology
  • Elementary Education
  • Prekindergarten
  • Reading
  • Technology Education

Candidates who need to take an assessment that has two subtests will be given the option of registering to take either a single subtest or both subtests in one test session.

To determine what assessments you will need to take for Ohio licensure, please look over this portion of the OAE website.
