Transitioning to UC Uptown

Whether you are coming to UC's Uptown (Clifton) campus from high school or a branch campus, there are going to be differences in how you receive testing accommodations. This information is intended to help prepare you for some of those differences.

Your first point of contact at UC regarding your testing accommodations is the Disability Services Office. This office will determine what accommodations you are eligible for at UC and may provide you with information about testing accommodations offered through Testing Services during your intake interview.

Some instructors choose to provide students with testing accommodations for their own tests on a mutually agreed upon time with the student. All other accommodated tests are administered through Testing Services.

If you are coming to UC Uptown from high school, please consider the following:

  • In college, it becomes the student's responsibility to inform instructors about using testing accommodations. It is recommended to complete this within the first couple weeks of classes, but you may choose to use testing accommodations at any time during the semester.
  • Disability Services can be a good source for tips on self-advocacy and can provide you with an Accommodation Form to provide to your instructor(s).
  • Be sure to check out the links to the left under "Accommodated Testing Student Information" to learn about UC Uptown's policies and procedures for testing with accommodations.

If you are coming to UC Uptown from a branch campus/different college or university, please consider the following:

  • Even amongst UC's campuses, there are differences in how students receive accommodations. Make sure to be aware of the testing policies and procedures at each campus (e.g., how to schedule for exams, your responsibilities).
  • If you are determined eligible for classroom and/or testing accommodations at one branch campus, you are eligible to receive your accommodations at any UC branch location, but should still contact the Disabilty Services at the specific branch to touch base about their expectations.
