Why Nurani Dunia Foundation?

Nurani Dunia was formed to mobilize resources mostly within Indonesia and to implement programs to assist refugees of violent riots. In addition to providing direct relief, the organization promoted numerous peace-building efforts. It has also developed expertise in providing education for children affected by conflict or natural disasters.

Currently, Nurani Dunia is working with local organizations in the Indonesian provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra where the December 26 earthquake and tsunami killed nearly 100,000 people. The organization is responding to needs by distributing food and crucial medical supplies, assisting local authorities with emergency communications, and providing logistical support for various organizations. It expects to shift its energies again to educational programming for the children of Aceh once immediate health and food security issues have been addressed.

Nurani Dunia has built schools in several parts of Indonesia. It has developed a number of creative
education programs for refugee and other disadvantaged children. It has also worked extensively with teachers to provide training for them to handle post-traumatic stress within their student populations. The organization also has experience in installing clean water projects and developing numerous economic development initiatives.

Nurani Dunia is a diverse, non-partisan organization with members and volunteers of many different
ethnicities and religious backgrounds. It works with a wide network of local, national, and International partners. The organization has also been certified by the United States Embassy and US Agency for International Development in the distribution of humanitarian assistance. It operates chiefly through volunteers in order to maintain a very low overhead. For this reason, those willing to contribute funds to the organization can be assured that donations go directly to the purchase and transportation of urgently needed supplies.
