Entrepreneurial Affairs and Technology Commercialization

The University of Cincinnati is viewed as the preeminent driver of economic development and is considered by the community as an essential element of its economic vitality.

The Office of Entrepreneurial Affairs and Technology Commercialization serves as a key component in the overall strategy of the university to be a major player in regional economic development initiatives, commercialization of its technologies and education of the region’s workforce.

Overall Goals

  • To promote entrepreneurship as a fundamental value of the university and to incorporate it into its research, educational and service approach
  • To leverage the considerable, existing research and educational assets in order to establish UC as the premier, comprehensive program for entrepreneurship in the region and nationally
  • To serve as a leader in creating and facilitating new entrepreneurial opportunities that address the needs of the community and university
  • To establish an identifiable structure/framework for harnessing, integrating and expanding entrepreneurial opportunities for all colleges and divisions of the university
  • To be transformational in moving the university into new entrepreneurial arenas 

Core Functions

The Office of Entrepreneurial Affairs and Technology Commercialization is charged with the responsibility of developing new initiatives and implementing plans to drive technology development from research and innovation to commercialization. This office is connected to all areas of the University and serves as a point of contact for faculty seeking external resources and collaborative opportunities as well for industries/universities seeking opportunities to partner with different colleges, departments and faculty of the university. Specific functions include:

  • Establishment of a coordinated university-wide approach to entrepreneurship
    Identification and development of resources needed to advance the commercialization of new technologies
  • Development of new educational programs and other resources identified by the university and the community as areas of entrepreneurial need
  • Serving as point of contact for industries seeking University expertise/collaborations
  • Stimulation of new industry-university and university-university collaborations
  • Facilitation of partnerships with regional economic development initiatives
  • Planning of events to showcase entrepreneurial activities and create forums for networking
  • Representing the university on relevant regional and state committees and organizations to advance economic development
  • Creation of institutionally supported "enablers" and rewards to recognize entrepreneurial achievement
  • Development of mechanisms within UC that provide a seamless process for working across colleges, departments and other units involved in entrepreneurial activities
  • Development of a major branding and marketing strategy for the University’s entrepreneurial initiatives and programs
