| Increases in research funding allow UC scientists to move into uncharted territory. |
The University of Cincinnati, classified as a Research Extensive University by the Carnegie Commission and ranked as one of America’s top 25 public research universities, is an institution with a rich history in discovery and innovation. Credited with many firsts, from the oral, live-virus polio vaccine and the first observations of the National Weather Service, to the first antihistamine, the first electronic organ and the first safe, anti-knock gasoline, UC researchers are literally transforming the way we live and work. It is our history that has established UC as a leading research institution, and that great tradition of excellence continues today as we see our research enterprise grow to more than $330 million.

UC|21:Defining the New Urban Research University is UC’s strategic plan for charting its academic course for the 21st century. UC|21 is the result of months of discussion and consultation of a scope never before seen on campus. It lays out an ambitious set of goals and actions to define the role of the new urban research university in this dynamic new century, by building on our capacity to both serve and lead. Research takes center stage in the UC|21 plan through Goal 2—Grow Our Research Excellence.
