Research Orientation Series

The Office of Research is hosting a series of events aimed at introducing new researchers and new faculty to the various research offices, sources of information, and training and education events at UC. The discussions will provide useful information for running a more efficient and compliant research program, including grant-writing tips from well-funded colleagues, discussions on submitting grants and protocols for approval, and other timely issues. All interested faculty are welcome to attend.

New Researcher Orientation

On October 16 and 19, 2009, a 2-hour introductory session was held. This initial session was applicable to all researchers regardless of the type of research you conduct. Sandra Degen, VP for Research: Office of Research organizational structure, grant writing workshops, funding sources/opportunities including internal grants, research at UC (rankings and indicators), and mentoring and departmental support resources.
 
Dawn O’Neill, Executive Director for Research Programs, Office of Research: Introduction to the Researcher’s Gateway intranet, educational opportunities appropriate for new researchers, plus a quick reference on who’s who in the research process.

Ken Petren, Associate Professor Biological Sciences and Chair, Research Grants Advisory Committee: Tips and techniques for successfully conducting research at UC. Ken shares his research knowledge based on many years of experience at UC.

Jane Strasser, AVP for Research and Research Compliance Officer: Research protocol approval process including the IRB, IACUC, Biosafety, and Radiation Safety processes.
 
Mary Ucci, Director, Grants Management, Sponsored Research Services: Federal grant applications and approval process, including contracts.
