Update for March 2007

The Office of Research staff are continuing their effort to communicate more effectively to the research community at the University of Cincinnati. We hope this newsletter—to be distributed the first Thursday of the month—will provide you with necessary information for growing your research programs. Our goal is to supply you with the tools you need to secure additional funding from university, federal and alternative sources, and to seek out collaborations with other researchers across campus. We welcome your feedback, and, as always, encourage you to check out research.uc.edu for the current issue of UC Research—our quarterly magazine—and the latest research news and announcements.

Vice President for Research

NEWS

UC Remains in Top 25 for Federal Research Expenditures
The 2005 National Science Foundation rankings of federal research and development expenditures has once again listed UC in the top 25 among public institutions. The university remained at the No. 24 position for the second year in a row. Federal research expenditures are a strong indication of the strength of an institution's research enterprise.

Internal Grant Deadline Update
In January, Sponsored Research Services (SRS) launched new internal grant-deadline policies to better serve researchers as the federal government switches to an all-electronic grant-submission tool. SRS has successfully met all electronic deadlines, but recognizes that researchers still have concerns. A faculty advisory committee is being formed to address concerns related to the new grant deadlines and other SRS functions. Learn more about the steps involved in processing a proposal after it leaves your desk and view a recent Research Orientation Series presentation.
