It’s important—particularly as we prepare for another busy academic year—to congratulate everyone on a job well-done. Your efforts to meet the new five-day lead time proposal deadlines have not gone unnoticed. In July, more than 80 percent of proposals submitted made it on time to the sponsored research team.
We appreciate the extra effort you have made to meet these deadlines. We also continue to welcome any feedback you have on this process.
As always, I encourage you to check out research.uc.edu for the latest research magazine, news and announcements.

NEWS/GRANTS Research, Etc. The Office of Research has transformed its research orientation series into a new program aimed at offering comprehensive research education, training and consulting. Called Research, Etc., this series will provide more opportunities intended to aid in the success of individual researchers and their programs. The 2007?08 Research, Etc. schedule is still being finalized, but it is expected to offer several presentations on both campuses for added convenience. Look for the schedule to hit your inbox soon. For more information, contact Dawn O’Neill at dawn.oneill@uc.edu or (513) 558-6565.
Research IT Support As budgets become constrained, it is important for the research community to realize that UCit offers a large number of services that can help stretch the research dollar. These services include data storage and backup, server hosting, file-sharing, equipment repair, Web site creation and hosting (including blogs, wikis, podcasting capabilities, and streaming content), videoconferencing, security consultations on existing servers, network scans to determine traffic entering and leaving a site, assistance in negotiating with software vendors, and consultation with database analysts. Further information concerning these services, visit http://research.ucit.uc.edu or e-mail Mike Lieberman, dean of instruction and research computing within UCit, at lieberma@ucmail.uc.edu.
2007—08 Grant-Writing Workshops The Office of Research will continue to host its grant-writing workshop series—this year with a new session on writing revised grants. Look for up-to-date information at www.uc.edu/ucResearch/GrantWritingWorkshop.html.
SAVE THE DATE—State of Research at UC The Office of Research will once again present 2007 research data and highlights to the university during a State of Research presentation. This year, in an effort to make sure everyone has the opportunity to attend, we’ve decided to offer the talk on both campuses and on two different dates:
Dec. 6, 2 p.m. Rieveschl Auditorium, Vontz Center for Molecular Studies
Dec. 7, 2 p.m. Room 450, Lindner Center
