UCID for Employees and Affiliates
The University of Cincinnati takes very seriously its responsibility to safeguard employee records and identification privacy. To enhance your identity security, UC is discontinuing its use of the Social Security Number as the primary employee identifier in favor of a new UCID with the implementation of the UC Flex HR system in late June, 2006. From now on, you will use your UCID for all your employee business.
Please use this page to answer your questions about UCID.
What is a UCID?
The UCID is your new employee identification number. The UCID is used as the “Employee ID” for all UC employee business.
For all employees, the “Employee ID” is no longer their Social Security Number. Like the Social Security Number, the UCID is a nine-character identifier. All UCIDs begin with the letter “M” followed by eight numbers (for example, “M00345678”). Your UCID may have a zero ("0") as one of its characters but it will never have the letter "O". The first character "M" is the only letter in the UCID.
When will you use the UCID?
The UCID (new Employee ID) is used to transact employee business at the University. Anywhere that a Social Security Number (old Employee ID) would have been requested, the UCID will now be requested. Examples of uses of the UCID:
- The University's HR department will ask for your UCID when you are inquiring about your employment or benefits.
- Online request forms for access to University systems will require the UCID.
- Service units such as badge and parking may require the UCID to obtain services.
How do I get my UCID?
Employee pay statements include the new UCID number instead of Social Security Number. You can also query the "get my UCID" website to locate your new UCID. At that website, enter the requested information and click “submit”. As of July 2006, if a UC Badge is re-issued or a new employee gets a badge, the UCID is printed on the UC Badge. Additionally, employees can call the HR Service Center to find their UCID.
When Employee Self Service is implemented in Fall 2006 as part of the UC Flex project, benefits-eligible employees will be able to see their UCID online as part of their personal HR record.
Will employees receive new UC badges as a result of the UCID?
No, the University will not re-badge employees for the sole purpose of having the UCID available on the UC badge.
