UCIT has partnered with InCommon to better grant access to external online resources available from education, nonprofit and government agencies.
With all the various systems and applications operating at a university, controlling who has access to which systems is complicated. When UC Information Technologies implemented the identity management system (central login) service a few years ago, that was a large step forward in simplifying the login process for users across various campus systems. Now UCIT has taken another step by joining a partnership that will simplify the process of logging into many external online resources.
Public Safety and UC Information Technologies have partnered to implement a more efficient solution for sending emergency text messages to the UC community.
Effective October 30, we will be switching text messaging providers from Rave to Nixle. Public Safety will send a text message to the community whenever there is an emergency on campus, or in the event of a weather related closing. UCIT will continue to maintain the sign-up system (text messaging is currently an opt-in service) through OneStop and Directory Services.
The emergency text messaging service is available free for all students, staff and faculty members. To sign up, faculty and staff members should go to the directory (https://ucdirectory.uc.edu/updates/default.asp) and update your directory listing. Students should sign up via OneStop (http://onestop.uc.edu/.html) and under my information, select change my address.
Information Security Awareness Week is over but the impact is not. Over 6200 pounds of paper containing sensitive information were destroyed. And over 400 students, faculty and staff stopped by the booth in TUC to learn how to better protect themselves against some of the technological dangers that exist.
Thanks to everyone who participated and congratulations to those who won raffle prizes!
