QuickGuide to IT Resources for Faculty

The UC Office of Information Technologies provides computing, networking, telecommunications, and other information technology resources to the University of Cincinnati community. Our goal is to make your use of information technologies as effective, pleasant, and trouble-free as possible. Here is a quick list of various UCit systems and services that may be of particular importance to you.

UCit Help Desk The UCit Help Desk provides support for all computing and telecommunications concerns for the faculty, staff, and students at UC.

 UC Mobile

UC Mobile powered by Cincinnati Bell offers unique, UC-centric features and cell phone services at competitive prices.  

GETit

The UC community uses the GETit system to order UCit products and services online. You can order cable TV, cell phones, network connections, pagers, software, telephones, training, voice mail and more.

Faculty Technology Resources Center
(FTRC) &
Blackboard

If you want to use technology in your teaching, you can get expert technical assistance from the FTRC. FTRC staff provide assistance with multimedia tools and technology, including Blackboard.

Blackboard offers you virtual class space on the Web and a set of tools you can use to develop and publish course content.
E-Mail:  UCMail &
Bearcat Online

UCMail (Microsoft Exchange) offers e-mail services plus scheduling functions. Only UC employees and affiliates sponsored by UC departments are eligible for UCMail accounts. For registration information, please contact the UCit Help Desk at 6-HELP (4357).

Bearcat Online is the university's official student e-mail system. For more information, please see http://email.uc.edu.

Electronic Classroom Support Services (ECSS)

Electronic Classroom Support Services offers electronic classroom facilities, video conferencing, satellite downlinks and more. For more information, please send e-mail to Jane.Combs@UC.Edu or call ECSS at 6-1977.

Presentation Technologies & Services Group (PTSG)

The PTSG is the central resource for streaming media technologies at UC. PTSG produces, engineers, and streams audio and video of UC events, from sports to guest lectures, over the Internet. UCVision is your connection to webcasts from UC.

Computer Labs UCit operates public computer labs in various locations around campus, including a 24-hour facility on the 5th floor of Langsam Library, called UCit@Langsam. For detailed information, please see http://labs.uc.edu, send e-mail to Don.Rainwater@UC.Edu, or call Don at 6-9020.
Network Access The UC Remote Access (UCRA) system is a dial access modem pool operated by UCit. You can apply for your account online. For assistance, please call the UCit Help Desk at 6-HELP (4357).
Toll-Free
Calling Service
The remote access calling service allows UC faculty to call UC telephones, retrieve voice mail, and access the UC data network via a toll-free number. For detailed information, please call the UCit Help Desk at 6-HELP (4357).
Wired and Wireless Access Services

Would you like to use your laptop to access the network? UCit provides both wired and wireless network access in various campus locations. For detailed information, please call the UCit Help Desk at 6-HELP (4357), or see Getting Online.

Discount Priced
& Free Software

UC has site license agreements with various software vendors. For an overview of some of the software license contracts currently negotiated for the UC community, please visit UCit's software pages.

UCFileSpace You can use UCFileSpace to access your files from anywhere on the UC campus network - or anywhere in the world. The UCFileSpace system includes a Unix shell environment. You can use it to develop web pages, write Unix programs or scripts, and more.
