Macintosh Software Installations


NetWare Client | NCSA Telnet 2.6 | Netscape 3.0 | Eudora Pro 3.0 | Disinfectant 3.7
Netscape 4.0 | Office 98 | TCP3270 | McAfee Virex | Virex DAT Files

Installing the Netware Client for MAC
(Requires 15 mg of free space)

    Obtain Software
  1. Go to Chooser.
  2. Click on Appleshare.
  3. Scroll to CITS NSS zone.
  4. Double click on APPLECARE INFO.
  5. Login as username APPLECARE password APLPLE
  6. Double click Network Software Installs.
  7. Open Netware for MAC folder.
  8. Open Prosoft Client for MAC.
  9. Open Prosoft NWClient 5.13Mac.
  10. Run the Netware Client Installer.

    Install Software
  11. Double click Installer.
  12. Click CONTINUE.
  13. Click CONTINUE.
  14. Click AGREE.
  15. Enter user information, including Registration number: P4007231054104006.
  16. Click Install.
  17. Select destination folder and click Install again.
  18. Click YES to restart.

    Configure Software
  19. After reboot, go up to the tree at the top right of the screen and go down to preferences.
  20. Click on FIND, locate the tree and set it to UNIVCIN.
  21. Click PREFERRED.
  22. Click BROWSE and path to actual username, select and click SET DEFAULT.
  23. Login as user.

Steps to Install NCSA Telnet 2.6

  1. Go to the Apple Menu, down to CHOOSER and release. Click on AppleShare in the upper left hand window, select the CITS NSS zone in the lower left hand window, and Dbl-click APPLECARE INFO in the right window.
  2. At the login, type "Applecare" for the userid and "Apple" for the password.
  3. Locate and open the Network Software Installs, then the NCSA for MAC folder, then drag the NCSA Telnet folder to the Harddrive. This will create an NCSA Telnet folder on the MAC. This app does not need to be installed. It is drag and drop.
  4. Contained in the NCSA Telnet folder created on the harddrive are settings files already created for the App. Highlight them and go to File on the top menubar and down to Duplicate.
  5. Drag the duplicates to the desktop and click on the title of each one and Remove "duplicate" form the title.
  6. Double click each settings icon to make certain that it connects to the appropriate place. The UCLID icon connects to the library.
  7. The UC Library login password is UCLID.

Steps to Install Netscape Navigator 3.0 Gold

  1. Go to the Apple Menu, down to CHOOSER and release. Click on AppleShare in the upper left hand window, select the CITS NSS zone in the lower left hand window, and Dbl-click APPLECARE INFO in the right window.
  2. At the login, type "Applecare" for the userid and "Apple" for the password.
  3. In the HAL's Shared Items locate and open the Netscape folder and find the Netscape 3.01 Gold installer icon. Double click it to begin installation.
  4. At the Banner Page, just click "Continue".
  5. At the "Netscape 3.01 Gold Installer" screen, just click "Install".
  6. It will give you an "Installing" screen and begin installing files it needs.
  7. At the "LiveAudio Plugin" question box, click "Install Plugin".
  8. At the "Software was successfully installed" question box, click "Quit".
  9. The application is now installed and must be configured. Dbl click the Program icon and it will execute. Once it is up go up to the "Options" at The top and down to "General Preferences".
  10. At the "General Preferences" window, click on the "Appearance" tab. Under the "Browser Starts With" box, make sure "Home Page Location" is clicked And type HTTP://www.uc.edu and click OK button.
  11. The application is now ready for use.

** Some older MACs out there cannot handle the newer versions of Netscape.

Steps to Install Eudora Pro 3.0

  1. Go to the Apple Menu, down to CHOOSER and release. Click on AppleShare in the upper left hand window, select the CITS NSS zone in the lower left hand window, and Dbl-click APPLECARE INFO in the right window.
  2. At the login, type "Applecare" for the userid and "Apple" for the password.
  3. In the HAL's Shared Items locate the folder EUDMAC30 and open it. Then open the MacEud30 folder, then double click the "Eudora Pro 3.0 Installer" icon to begin installation.
  4. At the "Banner Page" click Continue.
  5. At the "Software License Agreement" screen, click the "Accept" button.
  6. At the "User code" screen just click "Next". No code is necessary.
  7. At the "Install the following screen" highlight Full Eudora without Connectivity and click install.
  8. The next screen is where you pick the type of MAC you are installing on. Most likely it is a PowerPC but if there is doubt select universal.
  9. The next screen is where you decide where to install the files. It will create it's own folder, you just have to tell it where. Generally in the root of the harddrive. Select you location and click Install.
  10. It will begin installing files. There should be a total of 65 items to Install.
  11. After the files install, the "Installation was successful" screen will appear. You need to click quit here.
  12. The next thing that needs to be done is for the Eudora Pro to be Configured. The user must have a valid Bearcat Online ID for this. If they don't have one, then they need to go to the UC Homepage and register for one.
  13. After installing, the window containing the Eudora stuff will remain open. Create a new folder there and call it "Eudora Attachments". To configure, execute the application and the settings window will appear. The "Getting Started" area is where the POP account or user's ID goes with @email.uc.edu after it.   14. Next click on "Personal Information" and enter the user account info in the "Return Address" area again.
  15. Next click on "Hosts". Most of the settings will be extrapolated from the Other screens but the "SMTP settin needs to be "Email.uc.edu", and the "Ph" setting needs to be "Phonebook.uc.edu".
  16. Click on "Checking Mail" and place a check in front of "Check for Mail every" and enter 60 in the minutes.
  17. Click on the "Attachments" tab on the left side and click on the "Attachment Folder" Button. In this window you need to path over to the "Eudora Attachments" folder we created earlier and click use folder.
  18. You have now finished installing Eudora Pro 3.0 for the MAC. Test it using the user's ID and Password to be certain it works.

Steps to Install Disinfectant 3.7

  1. Go to the Apple Menu, down to CHOOSER and release. Click on AppleShare in the upper left hand window, select the CITS NSS zone in the lower left hand window, and Dbl-click APPLECARE INFO in the right window.
  2. At the login, type "Applecare" for the userid and "Apple" for the password.
  3. In the HAL's Shared Items locate and open the Disinfectant folder, then find the Disinfectant 3.6 icon and Drag and Drop it to the Hard Drive of the MAC. There is no install for this product.
  4. The execution and settings are simple for this one. You just doubleclick the icon and select the hard drive for checking. The Disinfectant software is a Freeware version of Virus protection. UC has a site license with Macafee for Virex and it is available from the Mcafee web page. See Instruction page #11.  

Steps to Install Netscape Communicator Professional Edition 4.7

  1. Go to the Apple Menu, down to CHOOSER and release. Click on AppleShare in the upper left hand window, select the CITS NSS zone in the lower left hand window, and Dbl-click APPLECARE INFO in the right window.
  2. At the login, type "Applecare" for the userid and "Apple" for the password.
  3. In the Network Software Installers locate the Netscape folder, then open the "Communicator 4.7 Complete" folder and dblclick the "Start Here" icon to begin the installation.
  4. At the Banner Page, just click "Continue".
  5. At the License agreement screen, just click "Accept".
  6. At the "Welcome to Netscape" screen, click "OK".
  7. At the "Netscape Installer" question box, click "Install".
  8. It will then warn you to shutdown your computer after the install to begin using the application. Just click "Continue". At this point it will begin installing the application.
  9. Click "Continue" on all install question boxes and finally it will ask you to restart. Click "Restart".
  10. At the next screen after bootup, click "Continue Setup Now" and it will execute the application and take you to the Netscape site.
  11. Once at the Netscape site, bookmark it for the user so they can return to it and update their application with plugins as needed.
  12. It will begin asking to create a user profile, just click "Next" all the way through these until you get the application up and running.
  13. Once it is up, go up under the Edit column, down to Preferences.
  14. Change the HomePage or StartPage to Http://www.uc.edu.

Steps to Install Microsoft Office 98

Office 98 for the Macintosh is no longer available from UCIT. It can be obtained from the University bookstore (as well as most other Microsoft products) via the agreement between the University of Cincinnati and Microsoft. Obtain a copy of the software on CD from the bookstore and insert it in your CD drive. Open the window and drag and drop the folder to your hard drive. The individual applications will self install upon first use.

Steps to Install TCP3270

  1. Go to the Apple Menu, down to CHOOSER and release. Click on AppleShare in the upper left hand window, select the CITS NSS zone in the lower left hand window, and Dbl-click APPLECARE INFO in the right window.
  2. At the login, type "Applecare" for the userid and "Apple" for the password.
  3. Locate and open the HAL'S Shared Items, then the TCP3270, then drag the NCSA Telnet folder to the Harddrive. This will create an NCSA Telnet folder on the MAC. This app does not need to be installed. It is a drag and drop application.
  4. Contained in the NCSA Telnet folder created on the harddrive is a setting file already created for the App. Highlight them and go to File on the top menubar and down to Duplicate.
  5. Drag the duplicate to the desktop and click on the title of each one and Remove "duplicate" from the title.
  6. Double click the setting icon to make certain that it connects to the appropriate place. The CUFS\TPX icon connects to the mainframe.

Steps to Install Mcafee Virex
Download/Install for Mcafee Virex for Macintosh

  1. To install the latest version of Virex to your MAC, go to http://ucit.uc.edu/computers/software/mcafee.asp and click on the Hyperlink for " Mcafee Antivirus Products/Updates" on the software page. Then click on "Standard" and then on "Virex v6.1".
  2. A series of files will be created by your browser ending with a folder called "Virex 6.1" (Files will be created in the folder specified by your browser as the default download folder).
  3. Inside this folder is an icon called "Installer" Double click this icon to begin the installation of the latest version of Virex for MAC.
  4. When the splash screen appears click "Install" to install the virus software on your MAC.
  5. It will ask you to scan your drive before installing. Click "Scan"
  6. After scanning, click "Install" at the next window. Take all the defaults and click "Install" again and the software will install on your MAC.
  7. When finished, click "Quit" and restart your MAC.

Steps to Install Mcafee Virex DAT Files
Download/Install for DAT File Update for McAfee

  1. To install the latest version of Virex to your Mac, click on the hyperlink for "McAfee Antivirus Products/Updates" on the UC software page. Click on "Updates and Service Packs" and then on "Virex file for Macintosh."
  2. A series of files will be created by your browser ending with a folder called "Virus Definitions 200-10-01." (Files will be created in the folder specified by your browser as the default download folder.)
  3. Inside this folder is an icon called "Virus Definitions 2000-10-01." Double-click this icon to begin the installation of the data files to your existing Virex software.
  4. A window will open and a dialog box will ask if you wish to update your definitions. Click UPDATE and the software will be installed in your existing version of Virex.
  5. When it is finished, click OK and close the program.
