The University of Cincinnati Information Technologies (UCIT) has recently created a Project Management Office (PMO). The role of the PMO is to improve the overall success of UCIT projects by establishing standards and templates, providing project support through mentoring and resources, and by managing the strategic, high risk, high cost, complex projects. The PMO supports UCIT’s commitment to successful projects through structured planning and improved processes following the guidelines of the PMI Global Standard methodology.
It provides a central coordination for portfolio management. The university’s governance model can be enhanced and built upon to establish a portfolio management structure to insure that projects managed by the PMO are prioritized, authorized, and managed to meet the strategic objectives of the university. This will also improve the effective utilization of existing and limited IT resources.
To find out more about the services the PMO can provide to your college or department to ensure the success of your projects, contact UCIT's Project Management Office at 556-9089.
